An Essex couple are to receive £10 million after seeing off a legal challenge from the relatives of a wealthy millionaire.
Golda 'Goldie' Bechal left the money to Kim Sing Man and wife Bee Lian Man but the bequest was contested by a group of Mrs Bechal's nieces and nephews.
They argued she had been suffering from dementia when the will was made and they should receive the money as a result.
Today at the high court Judge Sir Donald Rattee ruled Mrs Bechal had probably had "testamentary capacity" when she made the will, allowing Mr and Mrs Man to receive the money.
Speaking outside the high court after the ruling, Mrs Man described Mrs Bechal as having been "a mother to us" and "a grandmother to our children".
"We have a very special relationship. I am like a daughter to her and I
[thought] that deep down all the time while we're going through trial," Mrs Man said.
"This is the strength that she gave me over the years to carry on up to today," she added.
Mrs Bechal had befriended the Mans after she lost her husband Simon and Peter, aged just 28, in the early 1970s.
