Juan Carlos Ferrero easily overcame fellow Spaniard Tommy Robredo 6-3 6-4 to reach the final of the Cincinatti Masters.
In just over an hour and a half the 26-year-old set up a final between either Andy Roddick or Chilean Fernando Gonzalez and was always in control after an early slip-up.
Robredo succeeded in breaking Ferrero's serve early in the game but the former French Open champion struck back immediately.
As the tension mounted in the first set Ferrero broke again, allowing him to take an early match lead with ease.
In the second set Robredo, seventh seed for the tournament, suffered from a groin strain which required the trainer to be called. Although he managed to cling on until the ninth game, his efforts were in vain as Ferrero broke again.
After easily serving out the match the Spaniard, ranked 31st in the world, will have the chance of taking his first title since his run of form in 2003, when he briefly peaked as world number one.
