Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson says he will not take anything for granted until his side secure the Premier League title.

United have a five point lead over Chelsea after the west London side dropped two points on Monday night in a 1-1 draw against Wigan Athletic.

But with United facing three away fixtures in their remaining four games this season Ferguson says the title is not in their grasp yet.

He said: "We're in a good position, but with my experience in life you don't take things for granted."

Ferguson has experienced losing the title towards the end of the season before. His team looked set to lift the trophy in 1995 but could only manage a draw in their final game of the season against West Ham – handing the title to Blackburn Rovers.

The United boss says it is never easy to play anyone in the league away from home, and insists matches against local rivals Blackburn and Wigan, as well as the trip to Chelsea, will be difficult.

He said: "Because we have difficult games, there is still a lot to play for.

"Chelsea dropping points against Wigan was a bonus for us. We had a massive result against Arsenal on Sunday, so it could go to the wire. We can't take anything for granted. We could lose at Chelsea, we could lose all the games. It is a very difficult league."

Ferguson says the race for the title has been competitive between themselves, Arsenal and Chelsea and does not expect either of the London sides to give up without a fight.

He added: "It's been a really competitive league this season. Arsenal have had their moments and all the time when we were competing with Arsenal, Chelsea were creeping up behind us."

Ferguson says his players must continue to do their job until the Premier League crown is theirs once more.
