Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said he was "delighted" after his side overcame a goalless first half to see off Fulham 3-0 at Old Trafford.
Fulham offered stern resistance in the first half, but Wayne Rooney scored in the opening seconds of the second half before netting again late on with Dimitar Berbatov wrapping up the win and taking United back to the top of the Premier League.
Ferguson though was full of praise for his team's opponents, declaring after the game: "I am delighted with the victory because Fulham made us work hard.
"They have some experienced players and they made it difficult for us."
Ferguson added he believed United's goal at the beginning of the second half was key to their win.
"Our start to the second half was important," he said. "We needed to increase the pace of our play, and once we got the early goal, we seemed more confident."
The win over Fulham takes Manchester United two points clear of Chelsea and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League - as well as possessing a greater goal difference - and Ferguson thinks that statistic could play a crucial part in where the Premier League title ends up in May.
"It's at this time of the season you have to think about goal difference," the United boss said.
"We are now four goals ahead of Chelsea, but I wish it was a lot more."
