Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says he expects Gabriel Heinze's future to be resolved by August 20th and that the player still has a role to play at Old Trafford.
The Argentine defender has been the subject of a prolonged transfer battle after stating his desire to move to United's rivals Liverpool.
The Premiership champions are determined to prevent Heinze from switching to Anfield despite receiving a formal offer.
The Premier League have now stepped into the dispute and a resolution should be reached in ten days time.
Ferguson is insistent that the transfer will not take place.
"Nothing has moved as far as Gaby is concerned," he said.
"We have a meeting on August 20th which will settle the issue once and for all. We think our case is strong and we are depending on that."
"And, if it goes our way, Gaby definitely has a future here. He still has another two years left on his contract."
United have only just come out of another transfer saga involving fellow Argentine Carlos Tevez's move from West Ham which has now finally been resolved.
United will begin the defence of their Premiership title against Reading on August 12th.
