Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed reports that his transfer budget is capped each season as "nonsense".
The club were bought by American billionaire Malcolm Glazer in the summer of 2005 and, at the time, there were fears that Ferguson's transfer dealings would be restricted by the new owners.
However, when mention was made of the Manchester United supremo being held back by his new owners in the January transfer window, Ferguson reacted angrily.
"Those reports are nonsense," the Scot said.
"There is no figure from the Glazer family. We are operating in the same way as we always have done."
Ferguson is expected to launch another bid in January to try to tempt Bayern Munich into surrendering England international midfielder Owen Hargreaves, after attempts in the summer failed.
The 25-year-old has already admitted his preference for a move to England and Old Trafford is reportedly his preferred destination.
The transfer window opens on New Year's Day and for one month thereafter professional clubs will be allowed to buy and sell players until the window shuts again in February - prompting a feverishly active period for clubs' backroom staff.
