Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been charged with improper conduct for comments he made about the fitness of Premier League referees earlier this month.
After watching his side scrape a 2-2 draw at home to Sunderland on October 3rd, Ferguson said referee Alan Wiley was 'unfit' to officiate a top-level match.
The United boss claimed Wiley took too long over bookings and stoppages than was necessary - claiming the official needed to "catch his breath".
And this morning the Football Association has announced that Ferguson will be charged with improper conduct over the issue.
"The charge relates to media comments made by Ferguson about referee Alan Wiley following United's match against Sunderland at Old Trafford on October 3rd," a brief statement from the FA reads.
"Ferguson has until November 3rd to respond to the charge."
Despite later apologising for his remarks, Ferguson could be handed a significant fine or even a touchline ban if he is found guilty of the offence.
