World number one Roger Federer has marched into the final of the French Open with a semi-final victory over home favourite Gael Monfils.
The Swiss looked to be facing a real battle, despite comfortably winning the first set, after Monfils took the second set to level things up.
But Federer showed his guile as he moved 2-1 ahead before sealing the win in the 12th game of the third set to record a 6-2 5-7 6-3 7-5 win.
Unseeded Monfils - playing in his first ever grand slam semi-final - impressed but ultimately fell short of the standards of the top seed, who, although inconsistent, showed flashes of the brilliance that is likely to test his opponent in the showpiece on Sunday.
In the final, Federer will face reigning champion Rafael Nadal in a repeat of the last two finals at Roland Garros.
Nadal is chasing Bjorn Borg's record of four consecutive titles in Paris, having never lost a match on the clay courts of the French capital.
Earlier today the Spaniard beat world number three Novak Djokovic in straight sets to earn a fourth title berth in four years.
