World number one Roger Federer has defeated Lleyton Hewitt 6-3 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of the Montreal Masters.
The defending champion will now face Czech Radek Stepanek who defeated fourth seed Nikolay Davydenko 6-4 7-5.
Hewitt managed to break Federer's serve in the second set, the first time he has been broken so far in the tournament, but it was little consolation as Federer wrapped up another victory over the Australian.
"I served better than he did and that gave me an advantage," he said.
"It's a pleasure to play Lleyton after two years, we always have tough matches."
World number 60 Stepanek caused something of an upset in his victory over Davydenko.
The Czech player managed to break his opponent's serve during the fifth game of each set to claim victory.
Andy Roddick will play Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal will play Frank Dancevic in the other quarter-finals.
Britain's Andy Murray made his long-awaited comeback from injury earlier in the competition.
The British number one lost in the second round to Italy's Fabio Fognini in straight sets. The match was only Murray's second since recovering from a wrist injury that kept him out of Wimbledon and the French Open.
