Roger Federer eased through to the second round of the French Open with a 6-4 6-4 6-3 win over American Sam Querrey at Roland Garros.
In his quest for his first French Open title, the world number one wrapped up victory in one hour and 35 minutes.
Federer broke the 20-year-old Californian in the opening game but was then broken in the fourth game. The Swiss star responded with a break in the next game on his way to taking the set.
The 26-year-old broke Querrey once in each of the next two sets to seal victory, and set-up a second round clash with either Albert Montanes or Kristof Vliegen.
Federer said he was pleased to get a workout in his opening match.
"It's always difficult in the first round at Grand Slams. I'm relieved and looking forward to the second round," the 12-time grand slam winner said.
