Householders in Nottingham are more likely to be burgled than anyone else in Britain, it has been revealed.

A new survey shows that people in the East Midlands city are at an 88.7 per cent increased risk of having their homes broken in to.

The claim is made by Endsleigh, which has analysed insurance claims in the UK over the last four years to deduce the riskiest and safest towns in Britain in terms of burglary.

Surrey's Guildford is named as the safest place in the UK alongside Swindon and Dundee, while Leeds and Hull join Nottingham among the cities with the highest burglary rates.

"As our homes report shows, every householder in the country needs to be aware of the risks of burglary," Endsleigh spokesman Stuart Wartalski said.

But the representative noted that Home Office statistics showed burglary rates had fallen 19 per cent in the last year.

"Clearly, some towns and cities have come out as having a higher risk than others, but what is encouraging is that overall burglary rates are falling - even in the riskiest towns and cities," Mr Wartalski added.
