Fame holds UK box office spot from Gervais

Musical remake Fame has retained the UK box office number one spot ahead of Ricky Gervais' new comedy The Invention of Lying.
The Kevin Tancharoen film, a new version of the 1980 hit set in the New York School of the Performing Arts, narrowly held the summit in its second weekend on release, with Gervais' high-concept movie debuting in second.
A 3D version of 1995 animation Toy Story, re-released in advance of next summer's eagerly awaited Toy Story 3, debuted in third at the UK box office in its first weekend, with a creditable £1.4 million.
Sci-fi thriller Pandorum was the only other new release to reach the top ten, debuting in seventh, while Nia Vardalos comedy Driving Aprodite performed poorly, grossing just £21,116 from 102 UK and Irish sites.
