South Africa international Steven Pienaar has been banned from driving for 12 months after pleading guilty to drink-driving.
The Everton player was found to be nearly twice over the legal limit after being stopped by police in the early hours of Sunday February 21st, the day after the Toffees beat Manchester United 3-1.
The 27-year-old was also fined £1,000 for the drink-driving offence as well as being fined a further £100 for failing to comply with a traffic signal.
The midfielder was also ordered to pay £85 costs. His year-long driving ban could be reduced to three months if he completes a course before October 7th, the Daily Telegraph reported.
Merseyside Police found Pienaar had 61 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms.
The South African came to Goodison Park on loan in the summer of 2007 and signed permanently for Everton in April 2008, leaving his former club Borussia Dortmund for a £2.05 million fee.
