Germany receive Frings boost ahead of Turkey clash

Torsten Frings could be back to face Turkey in the semi-finals
Germany have been handed a fitness boost ahead of their Euro 2008 semi-final against Turkey with the news that Torsten Frings could be available.

The midfielder missed Germany's 3-1 win over Portugal in the quarter-finals due to a fractured rib he sustained during their 1-0 over Austria in the final group game.

Germany manger Joachim Low says he has a full squad to choose from again but is not yet sure if he will change the starting XI which played so well against Portugal.

"I'm fortunate to be able to say that all 23 players trained today and are fit," said Low.

"Torsten trained completely normally, but with a protective bandage. He said he had no major problems. He will have to live with a nagging pain but as things stand he could play."

Low changed to a 4-5-1 formation in the absence of Frings and could stick with that formula against Turkey on Wednesday.

Former Aston Villa man Thomas Hitzlsperger and Simon Rolfes played in the centre of midfield against Portugal, allowing Michael Ballack to move into a more advanced role. The potential return of Frings therefore gives Low some extra options.

He said: "Frings is an important player and could return but we also say you should never change a winning team. I haven't put my mind to the line-up yet."

Germany will also look forward to having Low back on the touchline after serving his one game suspension for clashing with Austria coach Josef Hickersberger during their final group game.
