The Environment Agency has issued six flood warnings across the UK as the country prepares for stormy weather.
Flood warnings have been issued for six areas in the Midlands, northwest and Wales while 51 flood watches have been issued on rivers across the country. Less severe flood watches have been issued for areas in the Midlands, Wales, the southwest, Anglia and the Thames.
The agency has warned of extreme conditions on rivers as the Met Office predicts severe weather over Wales and southwest England.
A spokesman for the weather information service said that heavy snow was expected in the Highlands and Eilean Sar, Grampian and Central Tayside and Fife areas in the north of the country today. It also predicted severe gales in the southwest of England and in Wales today which could lessen in intensity tomorrow.
"The Met Office is expecting severe gales to affect some southwestern parts of the UK on Sunday. Westerly winds gusting 70 mph to 80 mph are particularly likely in exposed locations of Devon and Cornwall.
"Winds should ease during Sunday evening. Disruption to transport and power networks could occur. The public are advised to take extra care and to keep up to date with the latest forecasts," the service stated.
