Woody Allen for Dr Who

Tuesday, 15 May 2007 07:52
Allen is rumoured to be playing Albert Einstein in the show
Legendary film director, actor and comic Woody Allen will soon be joining Doctor Who in the Tardis, according to reports.

Allen, who has clocked an amazing three Oscars over his 57-year showbiz career, is thought to love Britain and filmed his last two movies, Match Point and Scoop, with Scarlett Johansson in London.

He is also though to be shooting his next film, Cassandra's Dream, in the capital with Hollywood heavyweights Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor.

"Producers are going all out for big names," a Doctor Who source told the Sun newspaper.

"Kylie confirmed last week, now Woody Allen's in the frame."

And nerdy New Yorker Allen, best known for directing Manhattan, Annie Hall and Sleeper as well as his self-depreciating humour, could be playing the world's most famous scientist.

"They want him to play Albert Einstein. They chose Einstein because they want historical figures in the special. Einstein's also linked with Dr Who themes, like time travel."

The 71-year-old actor has been married four times and had a famous romance with actress Diane Keaton.

His personal life received much attention in the early 1990s when, after separating from third wife and actress Mia Farrow, he continued his relationship with Soon-Yi Previn, Farrow's adopted daughter 35 years his junior. Allen and Previn married in 1997.
