The Weakest Link and other BBC programmes have been moved to Glasgow as part of the corporation's bid to be more representative of the UK.
The Anne Robinson-hosted quiz show, along with Question Time, Newsnight Review and Imagine, will all move north of the border, BBC Vision director Jana Bennett announced.
Crimewatch and Casualty are to be relocated to Cardiff, while production of the Chelsea Flower Show and Hampton Court Flower Show will be based in Birmingham.
Speaking to the Royal Television Society in London, Ms Bennett said the BBC's intentions are "nothing less than changing the very DNA of the BBC to bring the production of programmes closer to the audience we serve".
"That means permanently increasing the production and commissioning of programmes in other parts of the country," she continued.
"I believe that by investing in talent across the UK there will be more talent on our screens which reflect different types of voices and a different sense of place and a different way of thinking.
"The BBC wants to increase its approval in the north of England, for example, and in Scotland."
The corporation plans to open BBC "centres of excellence" in London, Salford, Bristol, Birmingham, Belfast, Cardiff and Glasgow as part of the revamp.
And by 2016, some 50 per cent of BBC network television programmes will be produced outside London.
