Golden Globe favourite Up in the Air is among the nominees for the Producers Guild of America's (PGA) best picture of the year award.
The George Clooney film, released in the UK on January 15th, is joined by fellow Oscar hopefuls Invictus, The Hurt Locker and Precious: Based on the novel Push by Sapphire in the PGA's shortlist for the guild's highest honour.
Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds is also nominated, along with sci-fi hits District 9 and Star Trek, Pixar animation Up, British drama An Education and James Cameron's blockbuster Avatar, which this week passed the $1 billion (£625 million) mark at the worldwide box office.
The PGA's top accolade is frequently seen as a marker of future Oscar success with former best picture Academy award winners Slumdog Millionaire and No Country For Old Men previously winning the Darryl F Zanuck producer of the year award.
The PGA also recognises televisual achievements with the BBC's Little Dorrit nominated alongside HBO's Grey Gardens and AMC miniseries The Prisoner.
The PGA's 2010 awards will be presented on January 24th at the Hollywood Palladium, Los Angeles.
