Stewart Lee, Miranda Hart, Victoria Wood and the cast of The Inbetweeners all took home prizes at this year's British Comedy Awards.

Hart took home the prize for best comedy actress for the second year running, while Lee won the award for best male television comic and best comedy entertainment programme for his Comedy Vehicle, reports the BBC.

Actress Dame Helen Mirren presented Have I Got News For You with a lifetime achievement award, and said afterwards that she thought British comedy was "in an incredible spot".

Kylie Minogue gave The Inbetweeners cast an outstanding achievement award, while Sarah Millican, who was anointed Queen of Comedy, received her gong via video-link.

Other awards on the night went to Bob Mortimer and Vic Reeves, who took the prize for best comedy show for Shooting Stars, and Darren Boyd who won best comedy actor award for his portrayal of John Cleese in Holy Flying Circus.

Victoria Wood recently won the outstanding contribution to writing at this year's Writers' Guild Awards.
