Joe McElderry is the frontrunner to win The X Factor, if reports that claim Simon Cowell has already picked the winner's song are to be believed.
According to the Sun, Cowell is keen to select rock classic Don't Stop Believin' by Journey as the debut single for this year's winner of the ITV1 show.
With 18-year-old Joe having performed the song with such acclaim in the show's Rock Week that the original version reached the top 20 in the UK charts, the selection of the power ballad as the winner's song would suggest Joe is the favourite to win the show.
A show source allegedly told the Sun: "It is getting to the crucial stages now and Simon and producers are very confident that Joe could be the winner. He made a great fist of Don't Stop Believin' and that has helped.
"It's always a difficult call choosing the song, especially as there are some very different talents in the final line-up."
The track is owned by Columbia Records and there remain "legal issues" to be resolved if Don't Stop Believin' is to be the next X Factor single, the Sun report adds.
The back-up choice for the winner's song for the current series of The X Factor is said to be The Climb, Miley Cyrus' signature song from Hannah Montana: The Movie.
