Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding has announced she plans to take a year off from the band to concentrate on her acting.
The 27-year-old, who stars alongside Mamma Mia! actor Dominic Cooper in new BBC drama Freefall, has fuelled rumours the Sound of the Underground group are to split by claiming she is now an actress who "in a girlband on the side."
With X Factor judge Cheryl Cole working on a solo album and attempting to build a television career in the US, the future looks uncertain for the five-piece who formed after appearing on ITV1 talent show Popstars: The Rivals.
"It's not fun when it feels like groundhog year," Harding told Heat magazine.
"We've been on a treadmill for six years, so we needed a break. It's very difficult when there are five of you trying to make decisions.
"Three of you might vote to do something that two of you don't want to do, so you have to do it anyway. That can be frustrating."
Harding recently joined the cast for the sequel to school comedy St Trinian's and said acting is a worthwhile venture as "I've always been called a drama queen".
However, the blonde was keen to stress this was not the end for Girls Aloud, saying: "We're not splitting up, we're just taking time out. It's been six years and we all wanted to explore different ideas."
