Russell Crowe is to host a tribute gig to Steve Irwin following the Australian wildlife expert's death earlier this month.
The Hollywood actor has been given three days off from shooting his forthcoming movie American Gangster, in which he stars alongside Denzel Washington, to fly back to Australia for the event, World Entertainment News Network reports.
As well as acting, Crowe is also the front man for the band The Ordinary Fear of God.
Upon hearing the news of Irwin's death, Crowe described him as "the Australian we all aspire to be".
"He was and remains the ultimate wildlife warrior. He touched my heart, I believed in him, I'll miss him," he said.
In an ironic twist of fate, daredevil animal lover Irwin was killed after he was stung in the heart by the barb of a stingray - a normally harmless fish.
His family held a private burial service for him at the weekend after they rejected a state funeral as he was just an "ordinary bloke".
A public memorial service is to be held next Wednesday for the 'crocodile hunter' at the Crocoseum he built at the Australia Zoo in Queensland.
