Actor and comedian Russell Brand and singer Katy Perry are engaged, the former's representative has confirmed.
The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star, 34, is believed to have proposed to Perry, 25, while the pair holidayed in India on new year's eve and Brand was quoted in the Sun newspaper on Wednesday as sending a text to friends and family saying: "It's true. Much love."
The couple have since travelled to Thailand and speculation of their engagement grew increasingly feverish in the early hours of Wednesday morning after a Twitter update from Perry.
"So when do I start walking the streets naked singing that Alanis song?" the I Kissed A Girl singer wrote on the microblogging site, in an apparent reference to the Alanis Morrisette song Thank U, featuring the line "Thank you India".
Brand and Perry have been dating since the autumn, with the former last month confirming his promiscuous days were over.
"It was a deep craving within me - I mistook it for lust," he told GMTV. "I thought I was promiscuous, but it turns out I was just thorough - to get the right one. I'm ever so happy."
Hot N Cold star Perry told Radio 1's Newsbeat in November she was unsurprised at the publicity afforded to her relationship with Brand.
"We both equally get our fair share, so if you put the two of us together then maybe it will multiply," she explained.
"The wonderful thing is we both have our own kind of separate talents, careers and lives and we really respect each other."
