Kerry Katona is "fine" after being admitted to hospital when she showed signs of pre-eclampsia.

The ex-Atomic Kitten member, expecting her fourth child in May, was being treated in Macclesfield, Cheshire this morning, as a "precautionary measure".

But a spokeswoman has since confrirmed the 27-year-old is not as ill as was initially believed.

"In fact it was water retention and low iron levels, which brought on similar symptoms," she explained.

"That is fantastic news. Mummy and baby are fine."

Katona was admitted to the Priory rehabilitation clinic for a fourth time last week suffering from depression after tabloid reports claimed second husband Mark Croft had cheated on her.

And after her legs swelled and she experienced pain in her feet, the former I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! winner had been sent to hospital, her publicist Max Clifford confirmed.

"She's been in a lot of pain, particularly in the last few days," he said earlier on Wednesday, adding that Katona had shown signs of pre-eclampsia.

A potentially-fatal condition, pre-eclampsia affects expectant mothers and manifests itself through headaches, sight problems and sudden weight gain.

However, Clifford's earlier comments that Katona's condition "could be water retention" have turned out to be accurate.

Katona has two daughters by her first husband, former Westlife star Brian McFadden, and a third daughter with Croft.
