Britain's Got Talent star Susan Boyle needs to be treated like a normal person despite her newfound fame, Piers Morgan has insisted.
The Scottish singer, who burst into the public eye after her audition on the ITV1 talent show was viewed an estimated 100 million times online, was reported to have sworn in the lobby of a London hotel having been "wound up" by two passers by.
But speaking to LBC radio, Britain's Got Talent judge Morgan defended the church volunteer over questions of her temperament, saying she is an "an incredibly sweet, nice, gentle person".
Boyle was said to have lost her temper outside the Wembley Plaza Hotel in north London after two strangers ridiculed her.
"How f*****g dare you! You can't f*****g talk to me like that" she is reported to have said.
Asked by police if there was a problem, Boyle allegedly replied: "Of course there's a f***ing problem."
But a spokesperson for the aspiring performer said police were already stationed at the hotel and were not called over the incident.
"The police were escorting a journalist from the premises who had been winding Susan up," a statement added.
"Susan and her sister were talking to the police telling them what had happened."
Speaking to LBC host Nick Ferrari, Morgan explained the speed of Boyle's sudden fame - which has seen the likes of Hollywood actress Demi Moore backing the I Dreamed A Dream hopeful - had been difficult for Boyle to manage.
"Anybody who has gone through that incredible transformation is going to be feeling the most unbelievable pressure," he explained.
"The final is on Saturday and she knows that everything may rest on that one performance. You could see the nerves almost crippling her on the semi-final show."
He added: "I just think it's time that everyone slightly backed off."
