Pamela Anderson has surprised contestants on the Australian version of Big Brother by entering the house.

In a surprise twist, the former Baywatch star is to spend time with the reality show contestants for the next three days.

The 41-year-old - who is believed to be dating ex-husband Tommy Lee again - entered the Australian house through the diary room after appearing briefly behind a glass screen.

Her cameo is thought to be an effort by Australian network Channel Ten to boost the programme's declining ratings.

Prior to her entry to the Gold Coast house, Anderson was asked about the size of her fee for appearing on the show.

"Huge, a lot," she replied. "Much more than I am worth.

"I don't want to say how much but it is a lot."

The actress, a prominent animal rights activist, has said she plans to protest at an Australian KFC restaurant having discovered that the fast food outlet sponsors the Australian Big Brother.

"Every show has a bunch of sponsors and it's not something you look into when you are offered a job," she said.

"But it's kind of interesting, it's a coincidence."
