Improvised BBC comedy Outnumbered is the frontrunner for the British Comedy awards, with five nominations.

The BBC1 series sees Claire Skinner and Mock the Week panellist Hugh Dennis as the exasperated parents of three precocious children and has drawn acclaim for the talent of its young stars.

All three of the young actors - Daniel Roche, Tyger Drew-Honey and Ramona Marquez - are up for best newcomer awards while Skinner is a best actress nominee.

In the best sitcom category, Outnumbered faces competition from Channel 4's Peep Show and The IT Crowd.

BBC3 comedy Pulling received three nominations for its finale special episode while comedians Michael McIntyre and Alan Carr each have a hat-trick of nominations.

Jonathan Ross will host the awards on December 12th, having pulled out of last year's ceremony after his suspension over the furore caused by his and Russell Brand's obscene calls to veteran actor Andrew Sachs.
