She may call her female best friend four times a day and have a close relationship with her that has lasted longer than some marriages, but Oprah Winfrey has denied that they are anything more than just good friends.
The 52-year-old talk show queen has hit back at rumours that she and her friend Gayle King are gay, telling the August issue of O (the Oprah magazine) that if she were gay she would have no problem telling the world.
"I've told nearly everything there is to tell. All my stuff is out there. People think I'd be so ashamed of being gay that I wouldn't admit it? Oh, please," she said.
Oprah and Gayle, who is an editor on the magazine, are often seen together in public setting tongues wagging in spite of Gayle's previous marriage and two children and Oprah's 20-year relationship with her boyfriend Stedman Graham.
"I understand why people think we're gay," Oprah said.
"There isn't a definition in our culture for this kind of bond between women. So I get why people have to label it how can you be this close without it being sexual?"
Gayle also spoke out about their relationship in the magazine, saying: "The truth is, if we were gay, we would tell you, because there's nothing wrong with being gay."
It seems that there maybe benefits to being seen as gay; earlier this month Oprah was named as the celebrity girlfriend you would most trust alone with your husband or boyfriend, according to a poll conducted by sisterwoman.com.
"She is all about the spiritual and emotional rather than the physical," said one voter.
