Channel Four TV host Paul O'Grady is in a "comfortable" condition after being admitted to hospital following a suspected heart attack.
A spokesman for the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, Kent, where O'Grady was admitted to on Friday night, confirmed that the comic was expected to make a full recovery.
Earlier in the day a friend of the 51-year-old told the media that he was admitted to hospital on Friday morning after he began having chest pains. "It does appear he has had a heart attack," said the friend.
"The next 48 hours are crucial. He's out of intensive care but the situation is serious," a source told The Sun.
The comedian, who currently hosts his own show, titled The New Paul O'Grady Show, suffered a heart attack in April 2002. Since the attack, and a subsequent operation to widen a blocked artery, Mr O'Grady is said to have reviewed his lifestyle and given up smoking.
He reportedly began smoking again following the death of his business partner and former lover Brendan Murphy in June last year.
"We are shocked and concerned by the news," said a Channel Four spokesperson yesterday. "Along with Paul's many fans we are wishing him all the best."
