Miriam O'Reilly is to leave the BBC a year after winning an age discrimination case against the broadcaster.

The former Countryfile presenter won an employment tribunal last January, after she claimed that she had been dropped from her duties on the show unfairly.

Ms O'Reilly has cited her reason for leaving as because she wants to work on other projects, including her charity, Women's Equality Network. She leaves one year into a three-year contract.

After winning her tribunal, she was given a new role on Crimewatch Roadshow, which aired last summer.

A BBC spokesman thanked Ms O'Reilly for her work on BBC radio and television.

"We wish her well in her new challenges but hope that there will be opportunities to work together again in the future," he added.

BBC Trust chairman Lord Patten said in an interview with the Observer last year that the corporation needs more female presenters.
