Controversial talkshow host Jeremy Kyle is to launch a US version of his daytime programme, it has been confirmed.
The ITV1 presenter, who has hosted more than 900 episodes of his talkshow, will hit US screens later this year, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Production company Debmar-Mercury will hold a limited test-run of Kyle's show this summer and should Kyle prove popular with US audiences, he will be syndicated nationwide in 2011.
"ITV Studios' creative vision convinced us that Jeremy Kyle can conquer another continent," said Debmar-Mercury co-president Mort Marcus.
"His series also provides us with another very strong talk format that can become a long-term franchise for us, just as The Wendy Williams Show did."
In a statement, Kyle commented: "I am particularly looking forward to meeting ordinary American people and hearing about their extraordinary lives.
"This show isn't about me - it is about their issues and problems and how we can face them together - with complete honesty and openness - in front of US audiences."
Kyle's ITV1 talkshow has not been without notoriety since its 2005 debut, with a British judge describing the programme as a "human form of bear baiting" after a man was jailed for assaulting his partner following an appearance on the show.
The Jeremy Kyle Show was also rebuked by Ofcom last year after an instalment contained one of the "most offensive" swear words.
