Ofcom will investigate comments made by Jeremy Clarkson regarding public sector workers.
The Top Gear presenter said on BBC One's The One Show that he thought workers who were out on strike last month should be shot in front of their families. Around 31,000 people have complained to the broadcaster.
According to the media regulator, comments that may cause offence can be justified in context; Clarkson had prefaced his comments with apparent support of the strikes because it meant London was free of traffic.
He then said that the BBC had to be balanced before adding the remarks about the execution of public sector workers.
Trade union Unison called for him to be sacked, before accepting an apology from the presenter and inviting him to spend a day with a healthcare assistant.
Mark Thomson, the director general of the BBC recently defended Clarkson, adding that he had no intention of sacking him.
