Cheryl Cole is to begin working on a solo career while her band Girls Aloud take a break in 2009, it has been announced.
It had long been rumoured the 25-year-old would capitalise on her fame following a stint as a judge on The X Factor and a Girls Aloud spokesperson has now confirmed Cole's plans for a debut solo album.
"Cheryl is going to work on some solo music - there is no release date set for this yet as she has not recorded any music," the spokesperson confirmed.
"Her A&R people have approached various producers with the view to working with her.
"Until she has recorded music, we can't say who will be working on the record as we can't say at this stage what will make it past the idea stage," he added.
The announcement follows a post from electro star Frankmusik on microblogging site Twitter, which read: "I am producing Cheryl Cole's solo album."
It was revealed on Thursday that Cole was voted the sexiest woman in the world in a poll for FHM magazine.
While Cole works on her solo album, Girls Aloud are to "take time out" to concentrate on projects ranging from "music to acting to beauty to fashion", the spokesman added.
It was confirmed last week that Cole's band-mate Sarah Harding is to make her acting debut in BBC2 drama Freefall later this year, starring alongside Mamma Mia! star Dominic Cooper.
