Television presenter Fern Britton has revealed for the first time that she was raped 30 years ago as a 21-year-old.

The This Morning host discusses the 'absolutely terrifying' attack in her autobiography, Fern: My Life.

Britton said the rape took place while she was living in Cambridge, and involved a sports team manager whose lost dogs she had returned to police.

After taking her out for dinner the man then invited himself round to Britton's house where he presented her with two bottles of champagne.

When Britton returned from the fridge she found the man doing press-ups in her lounge, naked apart from a pair of orange Y-fronts.

"My first thought was that it was a joke, but within seconds my 'Ha! Ha!' turned into 'Oh, God'," Britton writes.

"I didn't have a phone at the flat, mobiles hadn't been invented, and before I knew what was happening he was up on his feet and trying to kiss me - pushing me against the wall, then down on to the floor.

"I was absolutely terrified, and thought: 'I'm done for - what do I do?'"

The TV presenter revealed her ordeal continued throughout the night until the man left the following morning.

"He was a big man and very fit and I decided the safest thing to do was just let it happen, neither struggle nor cooperate, stay limp and get it over with as soon as possible," she said.

"Where is he now? Did he do it to others? It's too late to dwell on it."
