The wife of former Coronation Street actor Ken Morley was tied up as masked men burgled the couple's home in Lancashire, police have revealed.
Susan Morley was left in a "state of shock but otherwise unharmed" by the ordeal, which took place in Clayton-le-Woods on Friday evening.
Mr Morley, who played the Street's Reg Holdsworth between 1989 and 1995, was not at home at the time.
A spokesman for Lancashire police explained that Mrs Morley had let the couple's dogs out into the back garden when three men forced their way in.
They demanded money, jewellery and the whereabouts of a safe before binding cable ties to her wrists and ankles and locking her in a room while they ransacked the house.
Mrs Morley was able to loosen the ties after about an hour and alerted neighbours, who in turn contacted police.
She told detectives that the men, who had all been wearing balaclavas, gloves and dark clothing, appeared to be in their 30s and spoke with Irish accents.
Lancashire police's Detective Inspector Neil Howarth commented: "This address has not been specifically targeted because it is the home of Mr and Mrs Morley.
"We are anxious to hear from anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously nearby at the time."
He added that the incident was being linked to a recent burglary in nearby Halsall.
As well as his long-running role in Coronation Street, Mr Morley, 64, has appeared in BBC2 sitcom Red Dwarf and more recently in Channel 4's Bremner, Bird and Fortune as US vice president Dick Cheney.
