Esther Rantzen has won immunity from this week's public vote on I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! after winning a coffin-based Bush Battle.

Along with Martina Navratilova, Nicola McLean and Brian Paddick, Esther took part in an arduous task on the ITV1 reality show.

The four celebrities were instructed to pack their belongings for an overnight stay in the jungle only to be told they were to spend the night in an underground coffin with only jungle creatures to keep them company.

The celebrity to last the longest without screaming the show's title to escape from the coffin would be exempt from the public's vote.

And as they were locked into their unorthodox beds, Esther remarked: "I cannot leave this magical experience without having a glimpse at hell."

Nicola cried out: "I’m a celebrity, get me out of here," within seconds to be removed from the coffin.

"I didn't even like that thing being closed, I've let myself down, I came here to confront my fears and I'd like to have done it but I can't," she explained.

"I don’t want to be voted off first, nobody does, but I won't see this as being voted off."

As the rangers poured cockroaches into the coffins, Esther's attempt to lengthen her stay in the camp by telling the critters fairytales and reciting Cinderella.

Martina was the next to decide she had endured enough, saying: "None of us want to be the first person to go but it wasn't worth the anxiety, it's up to the public, let the chips fall where they may."

And Brian soon followed, commenting: "The thing was to give it a go and after three bucket loads of critters I felt it was the time to quit."

Esther then calmly asked to be allowed out of the coffin and is immune from the public vote this week.

"I was up against such talent, Martina, Brian as bold as an iron and I won, not in a million years did I think I would, that's amazing," the TV presenter said after her ordeal.

Meanwhile in the camp, Dani Behr complained of her boredom, Joe Swash and Esther discussed losing their virginity and firm friends David Van Day and Timmy Mallett plotted a chart comeback - with a song called Biff, Baff, Boff.
