Dirty Den handing his wife divorce papers in the 1986 EastEnders Christmas special has been named as the most memorable soap moment of all time by a new poll.
As well as being the most memorable, the episode was also the most popular in the show's 21-year history as it pulled in a record-breaking 30 million viewers.
The answer to the mystery of who shot JR in Dallas came second in the poll. In November 1980 a whopping 350 million people tuned in to find that Kristen Shepard, Sue-Ellen's sister and JR's mistress, had pulled the trigger.
EastEnders' penchant for doom and gloom story lines seem to stay at the forefront of TV viewers' minds, as the Christmas 2001 special in which Little Mo hit her abusive husband over the head with an iron, only for him to come back and attack her, was named as the third most memorable moment.
Other moments which made it into the top ten include the plane crash in Emmerdale, Beth Jordache's first lesbian kiss in Brookside and Coronation Street's villain Richard Hillman driving the entire Platt family in to the canal.
A spokesman for Kaboom Bathroom Cleaner, who conducted the survey, said: "Soaps are a massive part of our everyday lives and hard-hitting storylines like the ones in this poll do remain with us for long time.
"Most of these soap moments are pretty morbid though. It seems the British public only seem to remember the more depressing storylines - there's only one happy scene in the top 20 list!"
