Little Britain star David Walliams is set to have his best-selling children's novel Mr Stink adapted into a comedy drama for BBC One, it has been announced.
The book, about a smelly homeless person that is befriended by a little girl called Chloe, will be broadcast later this year.
Walliams has written the script for the hour-long film and said he was "beyond thrilled" at the prospect of seeing his book being adapted for the big screen.
Details of cast members have yet to be announced.
Mr Stink was recently shortlisted for a Blue Peter award for the best children's novel of the last decade.
Controller of BBC One Danny Cohen described the story as a "heart-warming, nose-clenching and funny tale which will appeal to viewers of all ages".
The book was Walliams' second novel and has sold 250,000 copies since being published in 2009. The other books he has written are The Boy in the Dress, Billionaire Boy and Gangsta Granny.
