John Humphrys will step in to host Question Time after its regular presenter David Dimbleby was injured by a farm animal.

The Today and Mastermind host will present the BBC1 panel show on Thursday after Dimbleby was forced to miss his first show in more than 15 years.

The 71-year-old was loading a bullock onto a farm trailer when the animal reared, knocking Dimbleby unconscious briefly.

The presenter received stitches for a cut to the head but is "recovering well" in hospital, where he will stay for observation.

"I haven't missed a Question Time in over 15 years," he commented. "Trust my wife's bullock to take me out. I'll be giving bullocks a wide berth in future."

Humphrys will host this week's edition with Dimbleby expected to return next week.
