Danny Dyer has admitted his regret over losing his role in Oliver! due to making negative remarks about the actresses in the West End show.

The Football Factory actor was quoted by a journalist as saying he was not attracted to any of the actresses who auditioned for the role of Nancy in the musical.

Labelling the hopeful actresses as "rubbish" cost the 31-year-old the role of Bill Sikes and he has today told the BBC of his remorse over the comments.

"I opened my mouth a little and I should have kept my mouth shut. I'm gutted about that. You live and learn on those things," he said.

"I'd had a few lagers, spoke to a journalist and ruined my chances of playing Bill Sikes.

"It's a real shame and I won't be doing it again."

Dyer recently completed a film called Malice in Wonderland with Lost actress Maggie Grace and is soon to work with rap star 50 Cent in Dead Man Running.,

"I don't know about him as an actor. He's definitely a presence. I'm thrilled," he said of working with the G Unit member.

"It should be a good film. We come from totally different backgrounds but he's a great artist.

"You can't knock him. I just want to see what he's about as an actor."
