Pop mogul Simon Cowell faced a very uncomfortable decision last night when he was forced to choose which of his acts would leave The X Factor this week.
In yesterday evening's edition of the show Nikitta managed to pull off her best performance of the series so far, singing The Last Dance while accompanied by a number of dancers on the studio stage.
Cheesy-smiling Ray served up another swinging number but his quiffed antics proved insufficient to save him from becoming, together with Nikitta, one of the two acts forced to sing again in a bid to survive this week.
A frustrated Cowell said that neither should have been in the sing-off, but his comments made no difference to the situation. When Louis voted off Ray and Sharon chose Nikitta to go, it was up to him to choose which artist had to exit this week.
In the end, that artist proved to be Nikitta. Cowell said he was sorry for "letting Nikitta down", and will probably be feeling fairly sorry for himself into the bargain.
After all, the current series of The X Factor has proved to be one of the most contentious between the judges to date, with both Sharon and Louis ganging up on Cowell whenever possible.
Following last week's shock exit of Ashley it seems he is paying the price for the arrogant gloating he displayed earlier in the competition.
All three judges now have two acts left in the contest.
