Gavin and Stacey star James Corden has joined Snow Patrol on stage at the Royal Albert Hall after impressing frontman Gary Lightbody with his singing.

The actor followed in Martha Wainwright and Cheryl Cole's footsteps by singing the female vocal part on the band's single Set The Fire To The Third Bar on Tuesday night.

Wainwright had sung on the original recording of the song while X Factor judge Cole performed the song with Snow Patrol at the recent Children in Need Rocks the Albert Hall concert.

And having been surprised by Corden's singing ability during a recent meeting in a bar, Snow Patrol lead singer Lightbody invited the History Boys actor to join the band for their performance at the Kensington venue this week.

"Gary and I were drunkenly singing together in a bar the other night and he said I should come and sing with them at the Albert Hall," Corden told the BBC.

"I was so sure he wouldn't remember I said yes, and before I knew it I was getting calls about sound checks and everything.

"It's an honour to sing with one of my favourite bands and I loved every single minute of being on stage with them."

Lightbody added: "I thought he was joking, then he started singing in the bar and I nearly fell off my chair. He was brilliant.

"So we thought why the hell not - it doesn't always have to be a female guest vocalist. He was superb and knocked us out of the park."
