Stand-up comic Roy 'Chubby' Brown has been acquitted after being accused of hitting a young woman during an argument in a supermarket car park.
The comedian, real name Royston Vasey, was accused of striking 21-year-old Kelly Oliver during a dispute over parking at the Sainsbury's store on September 2nd last year.
But after denying a charge of common assault, the 65-year-old, of Northallerton, North Yorkshire, was acquitted at Teesside magistrates' court on Tuesday.
Though the court saw CCTV footage of the argument between Brown - famed for his crude stage act - and Ms Oliver, chairman of the Bench Fran Wood said the video had not been "helpful" to either the defence or the prosecution.
"Due to the inconsistencies of the evidence of all witnesses and the poor quality of the CCTV footage, we are not convinced beyond reasonable doubt that Mr Vasey is guilty of the offence," he explained.
Speaking after the verdict Brown remarked: "I was proved innocent, as I said all along.
"I have had so many sleepless nights and now I am just looking forward to getting back to normal.
"I just want to get back to doing what I do best, which is make people laugh."
