Cheryl Cole has the fastest-selling single of the year after her debut solo single Fight For This Love stormed to the top of the singles chart.
X Factor winner Alexandra Burke had claimed the accolade last week, after her new single Bad Boys sold more than 185,000 copies in its first week, but her former mentor Cole has broken the record, with an amazing 290,000 sales.
Fight For This Love has also claimed the biggest first-week sales since Burke's debut single Hallelujah - released after she won last year's series of The X Factor - sold more than half a million copies in its first seven days on the shelves.
"I'm just getting over the fact I have recorded my solo record and now it's number one," Cole commented after her first number one outside of Girls Aloud was confirmed.
"I can't take this all in. It's hard for me to put into words how I feel. I have this permanent smile on my face."
Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company, added: "Many congratulations to Cheryl Cole on her fantastic achievement. Other than X-Factor winners, very few singles get anywhere near 300,000 sales in their first week.
"In doing just that this week, Cheryl has shown just what a favourite she is with the British music-buying public."
Her debut solo album 3 Words is released on October 26th.
The only other new entry in this week's top ten came from Young Soul Rebels, with their charity song I Got Soul entering the chart at number ten.
Michael Buble's new release Crazy Love debuted at number two in the albums chart, with Whitney Houston's comeback album I Look To You entering at number three and Seasick Steve's Man From Another Time at four.
