Cheryl Cole's performance of her debut solo single Fight for this Love on X Factor last night has divided fans.

Ashley Cole's better half, who reportedly was at the show to watch his wife, took to the stage dressed in a Michael Jackson inspired military get-up to perform her new song.

Cheryl's performance was widely predicted to be mimed, but the show's producers have insisted the vocals were all live.

Watch Cheryl's performance and judge for yourself

Within seconds of the performance starting on last night's show forums and blogging sites were being inundated with comments from fans as well as sceptics.

Some deemed it "embarrassing", others said it was "self-promoting", and it wasn't only the vocals Cheryl came under fire for. Numerous comments were left about the Girls Aloud star's raunchy outfit, which was deemed "ironic" given her criticism of last week's losers Kandy Rain's get-up.

ReynardCity tweeted: "Is it just me or was Cheryl Cole dressed as M Bison from Street Fighter on #xfactor?"

While why_von left the following comment on Digital Spy: "Outfit was terrible and she had the cheek to criticise Kandy Rain last week then comes out with this on.

"Vocals were awful I think it was live as at times there was wobble in her voice when she was singing. Terrible single."

But fellow judges Simon Cowell and Dannii Minogue, and presenter Holly Willoughby, offered their support to Cheryl.

Simon said her performance was "incredible", while Dannii tweeted: "Cheryl's performance is hot." And Holly wrote: "Go go cheryl!!!! OMG amazing!!!!"
