Former Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips has refused to rule out the prospect of returning to the reality show later this year.

The BBC celebrity dancing series is looking for a new panellist after Alesha Dixon left the corporation to join ITV's Britain's Got Talent.

Phillips, 68, did not object to the idea of going back to take her old seat alongside Len Goodman, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli.

Speaking for the first time since Dixon announced her departure, she told the Sun she thought the fuss about her departure in 2009 was just starting to die down.

"Then this happened, and as soon as it did my phone hasn't stopped ringing. And I am very grateful but I can't even say thank you without it causing an avalanche," Phillips stated.

She went on to reveal her upset that the issue has taken over her life to the extent where she is no longer able to use Twitter – something she said she loves doing.

Phillips left Strictly three years ago, sparking an ageism row at the BBC, as she was replaced by the younger but less-qualified Dixon.
