Ugly Betty actor Alan Dale and model Kelly Brook are to join the cast of ITV1's Moving Wallpaper, it has been revealed.

The Australian actor - once renowned for his role as Jim Robinson in Neighbours but now famed for parts in The OC, 24 and The West Wing - will play one of the stars of a fictional project created by Jonathan Pope (Ben Miller), the main character of Moving Wallpaper.

And Brook, 28, will feature as Dale's co-star in Renaissance, a one-off drama produced by the fictional Pope, which will be broadcast in early 2009.

Moving Wallpaper, a spoof sitcom about the making of a soap opera, was launched on ITV1 last year and was received well by critics and audiences alike.

But while the satire flourished, the soap in question - Echo Beach, starring Martine McCutcheon and Jason Donovan - was axed after attracting poor viewing figures.

The new series of Moving Wallpaper will see Pope nervously awaiting a decision on his fate from ITV1's head of continuing drama but embarking on the production of a pilot drama, due to a clause in his contract.

And his creation Renaissance will Dale as a family man returning from a holiday abroad when his plane is attacked by zombies, entwining his future with that of fellow passenger Samantha (Brook).

Both Renaissance and the new series of Moving Wallpaper will hit the screen next year.
