Grammy-winner Amy Winehouse is "on the road to recovery", according to her mother Janis.
Talking to GMTV, she explained the troubled singer's health is improving after a spell in a rehabilitation clinic for alleged drug problems.
The Back to Black star was admitted to the Capio Nightingale facility on January 24th after the Sun newspaper published footage of her seeming to light and inhale from a crack pipe.
It had been reported that the 24-year-old was struggling to cope with the imprisonment of her husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who is on remand in Pentonville prison, north London, awaiting trial for charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice and grievous bodily harm.
But the stint in rehab has helped the singer, her mother said, adding: "Amy's coming back, she's definitely on the road back.
"She was sort of with it but not with it. She's got a solid family and we're all there for her," she said.
"I was helpless because there was nothing I could do. Amy had to do it for Amy and that's the way it is."
Though she won five Grammys at Sunday's ceremony, she was unable to travel to the Los Angeles show as the US embassy refused her initial visa application before reversing their decision at too late a date for a flight to be scheduled.
Janis Winehouse told the ITV1 breakfast show that Amy's absence was probably the best plan for all concerned.
"I think it would have been too much for her because all of the travelling and flying there," she said.
"I mean seeing what the Grammys were like, I thought if Amy were there, she'd be a little girl lost in it."
She performed via a satellite link-up and claimed the awards for record of the year and best new artist, among others.
"As you saw, she looks good. She's on the road to recovery," said Mrs Winehouse.
