Universal/Island, out now.
In a nutshell...
Perfect pop from 'this year's Mika'.
What's it all about?
A collection of gloriously overblown, gleefully camp pop songs. With lead single 15 Minutes already appearing everywhere from MTV to the BBC's Wimbledon coverage, expect them to be very big indeed.
Who's it by?
London-based show-offs Mike Kintish and Nick Ingram, alongside Mika's producer Greg Wells. The pair met when Ingram read for a play written by Kintish, this flair for the dramatic becoming achingly apparent in their music.
As an example
"I'll be back in 15 minutes, when they've made me a superstar/When I'm back in 15 minutes, I won't forget who you are." – 15 Minutes
Likelihood of a trip to the Grammys
Not just yet, but don't bet against them pitching up at the Brits.
What the others say
"Garishly grandiose, infuriatingly memorable." – Guardian
So is it any good?
Set to be impossible to ignore over the coming year, the Yeah You's will likely have as many people reaching for the sick-bucket as heading to the dance floor. If kitsch, operatic pop doesn't float your boat it might be best to hide yourself under a rock for the next few months, as these two are bound to be everywhere this summer. Whilst they might not be everyone's cup of tea however, they certainly know their way around a tune.
Having already been billed as this year's Mika (although mercifully less grating), the Yeah You's specialise in pop at its most theatrical, every maddeningly catchy hook delivered with glam-rock pomp. 15 Minutes’ and If I Could will have you singing along on first listen, whilst the ridiculously camp Ready to Love sounds like Queen doing Eurovision. It's not subtle, but it's certainly infectious. Meanwhile, the piano-led Getting Up With You channels the soft-rock sensibilities that gave label-mates the Feeling a hit with Fill My Little World a few summers back.
Over-the top, bursting with shiny melodies and guaranteed to get stuck in your head, the Yeah You's have got everything a good pop group should. And if you can't enjoy a few guilty pleasures in the summertime, when can you?
8/10
