Irish megastars U2 are to headline the 2010 Glastonbury Festival, it has been confirmed.
The Vertigo band will headline the Somerset event - celebrating its 40th anniversary - on Friday November 25th.
"The 26-year-old rumour has finally come true," said organiser Michael Eavis. "At last, the biggest band in the world are going to play the best festival in the world."
He added: ""Nothing could be better for our 40th anniversary party. And there are even more surprises in the pipeline..."
The quartet have not played a festival show for 25 years but will take to Glastonbury's Pyramid stage next June, having recently performed on a giant 'claw' stage as part of their 360 Degrees world tour.
The band's promoter John Giddings confirmed their Glastonbury 2010 slot on microblogging site Twitter, writing: "It is true, U2 headline the Fri night @ Glastonbury. They fly back for the weekend in the middle of their US tour."
Some 177,500 people are set to attend next year's Glastonbury, with tickets selling out in just 24 hours last month.
This year's festival was headlined by Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and Blur.
